Rockefeller Center: A Historical Landmark

Rockefeller Center is one of the most iconic landmarks in New York City, located in the heart of Midtown Manhattan, only steps from ManhattanVirtualOffice.com. It was built during the Great Depression and has been a cultural hub and tourist attraction for over 80 years. The center is composed of 19 buildings and covers 22 acres of land, making it one of the largest privately-owned business and entertainment complexes in the world.

The construction of Rockefeller Center began in 1930, led by the Rockefeller family, who wanted to create a commercial space that would uplift the spirits of New Yorkers during the Great Depression. The complex was designed by an array of famous architects, including Raymond Hood, Wallace Harrison, and Donald Deskey. It took nine years and 75,000 workers to complete the construction of the Center.

Over the years, Rockefeller Center has continued to evolve, welcoming new shops, eateries, and businesses. The center is now home to some of the most popular restaurants and retail stores in the city, including Magnolia Bakery, LODI, Anthropologie, and J.Crew, to name a few. Visitors can find everything from luxury brands to affordable shops, catering to all tastes and budgets.

One of the most significant recent additions to Rockefeller Center is the newly renovated concourse. The concourse spans 225,000 square feet, and after a two-year renovation, it now boasts an array of new restaurants and shops, making it one of the best places to shop and dine in Midtown Manhattan.

Some of the highlights of the newly renovated concourse include Jacques Torres Chocolate, Shake Shack, Sweetgreen, and Van Leeuwen Ice Cream. The area also features new art installations and updated design elements, creating a modern and welcoming atmosphere.

Rockefeller Center has become an integral part of New York City's cultural and economic landscape. It's a testament to the resilience and creativity of the Rockefeller family and all those who have contributed to its evolution over the years. From its iconic Christmas tree to its newly renovated concourse, Rockefeller Center continues to attract visitors from all over the world. If you're in the neighborhood, be sure to stop by and experience all that it has to offer.
